SpeedUp Windows Shutdown Process

Sometimes it becomes very frustrating for you to wait until your computer shutdown completely specially if you are in hurry and have some urgent work. You can speed up the process of computer shutdown just by amending few changes in your windows registry thus your computer will get turnoff more faster.
Playing with Windows registry is not recommended as anything wrong may get you in big trouble so its always suggested to take backup of your windows registry before making changes to it. For faster shutdown of your PC you have to amend few registry files which will speedup computer shutdown process.
To speed up and force all programs to close down you will have to amend few registry files such as :

  • Registry File: AutoEndTasks
    Its help you to end running tasks and automatically shutdown
    Editing file :
    a. Go to “Start”, click “Run” and type “regedit” to open Windows Registry directory
    b. Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
    c. Look for the Registry Key called AutoEndTasks . Right-click, select Modify and Change the value to 1.
    d. Exit Windows Registry.
  • Registry File: WaitToKillApp
    you can set time interval for Windows OS before killing the applications.
    Editing file :
    a. Go to “Start”, click “Run” and type “regedit” to open Windows Registry directory
    b. Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
    c. Look for the Registry Key called WaitToKillApp. Right-click, select Modify and Change the value to 1000.
    d. Exit Windows Registry.
  • Registry File: HangAppTime
    you can set the hang time for the app before closing it.
    Editing file :
    a. Go to “Start”, click “Run” and type “regedit” to open Windows Registry directory
    b. Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
    c. Look for the Registry Key called HangAppTime. Right-click, select Modify and Change the value to 1000.
    d. Exit Windows Registry.
  • Registry File: WaitToKillServiceTimeout
    you can set the time for Windows to wait before ending any Microsoft Services.
    Editing file :
    a. Go to “Start”, click “Run” and type “regedit” to open Windows Registry directory
    b. Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
    c. Look for the Registry Key called WaitToKillServiceTimeout. Right-click, select Modify and Change the value to 1000.
    d. Exit Windows Registry.

Thus by amending above 4 registry files you can speedup shutdown process of your system so no need to wait till your system gets turnedOFF.

Changing RDP Port for Windows system

Many a times you need to change/modify an RDP port for your Windows system, you can do so easily just by performing certain registry modifications. You will have to use Regedit, a software tool for finding, editing your computer’s Windows Registry.
You can use Regedit software which is available with your Windows OS to launch Regedit software you need to click “Start > Run”. Now, type regedit in the Run box. A Windows will appear and you are directed to Registry Editor window.



Now once you are in Registry Editor follow following steps for modifying RDP port.

  • Locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber
  • On the “Edit” menu, click “Modify” and then click “Decimal”.
  • Enter the new port number, and then click “OK”.

That’s all you have successfully modified RDP port for your system by modifying your registry through regedit command.
